After the Palm Pre, iPhone’s next contender: Motorola DROID!
Up to now the iPhone has survived the release of the Palm Pre, but will it survive the release of Motorola’s next hit, DROID? Verizon, the largest mobile network in the U.S. will release this baby November 6th.

Now it’s pretty hard to give you a full review since we don’t have the phone in hand but on the official Motorola website it indicates that the phone only supports CDMA… That really doesn’t get me excited. The good thing is that the phone features a whole lot of Google applications (exactly 10) going from GMAIL to GOOGLE BASE NAVIGATION. It also offers a combined phone book with your Facebook, GMAIL and Exchange accounts.
I guess the 2 physical features that nail the iPhone are the screen resolution of 480 x 854 vs. the iPhone’s 480 x 320 and its 5 megapixel camera with a 4x digital zoom and a capture resolution of 720 x 480 (DVD quality) whereas the iPhone 3GS it’s a 3 megapixels with… well, no zoom.

Web browsing seems pretty handy too with a Flash 10-ready which is expected 1st quarter of 2010 (leaves plenty of time for Apple to get a move on things). Also it offers a physical keyboard as well as a touch screen keyboard.
Now here come the cons. The storage space Motorola offers is a micro SD 16 GB pre-installed expandable to 32 GB. Would not trade in my iPhone 3GS 32 GB for that. The DROID weights 189 g compared to 135 g for the iPhone and its battery life is not great with a 385 minutes continuous talk time compared to a 300 minutes for the iPhone…with 3G network. Apple offers us 720 minutes of continuous talk time with 2G network.
Although there seems to be no major breakthrough with the DROID, we have to hand in the fact that this phone is Motorola’s first major hit since the RAZOR in 2005. The DROID’s intent is to propel Motorola back to top, but according to its tech specs web page, the company still needs a better product to outrank some of the smart phones out there.

And I was sure Motorola was about to die. After the RAZR (not RAZOR), they only had crappy phones and lost a big share of the market. Rumors had it that Motorola was about to stop making phones. They will need to rebuild their reputation.
In fact, the DROID (kinda stupid name…even if it runs on Android) looks like a nice phone. The features look nice, but because it is signed Motorola, it’s kinda like a turnoff.
16GB of internal storage + 32GB of internal is great. Why is that in the cons, you can have 48GB of storage? Most people hate the fact that iPhone has only internal memory.
Still, iPhone is the phone to have right now. Apple did a great job advertising it and now with some many apps and so many people using it, it’s easy to share everything. iPhone isn’t perfect, misses Flash player and a physical flash, but it still does a great job as a all in one device. It revolutionized the gaming mobile industry!
Bro you misread. I said its expandable up to 32 gb not 16 + 32. I wouldn’t have written “to” if it was 32+16 and by the way I won’t pay more for a 16gb if the iPhone gives me 32 gb already built in.
I’m looking forward to seeing for myself what Droid can do that the iPhone can’t; it obviously already has one leg up price-wise
@Gary Wilkes:
I have seen some reviews and people are bashing on it. The keyboard has a bad deign, the keypad is useless (hello touch screen…) and no multi touch.
